Analytics Explainer - Payroll and Operations Expenses

Intro / Purpose
• We need a dashboard to better understand our main payroll and operating expenses
• Need to be able to see expenses broken down by person/vendor to see how each is trending
• Important to highlight current expense volume but also see recent trends

Data Used
• Datasource: QB Payroll and Expenses
• Key Fields: Date, Account Group, Vendor, Amount

• Total Payroll and Operations expenses and comparison to previous period
• Scatter plot to show the size, $ change, and % change from previous period
• Detail of top 25 by person/vendor

• Filter on time periods

Sample Questions Answered
• How have our overall expenses been trending? Up or down from recent periods?
• Do any specific categories stand out that we should dive into more?
• Is our spend by vendor what we expect? Any surprises that we should research further?
